Heat Pump Thermostat & HVAC Care Guide

Some Laredo Town Apartments homes have a heat pump HVAC system, which provides both air conditioning and heating from the same system. Heat pumps are efficient, but they work best when residents use the thermostat properly and keep airflow clear.

How to Use Your Heat Pump

Choose a comfortable temperature and try to leave it there. Constantly raising and lowering the thermostat can make the system work harder, use more electricity, and make your apartment less comfortable.

Please use Cool during warm weather and Heat during cold weather. Avoid using Auto unless management has specifically instructed you to do so.

Setting the thermostat to an extreme temperature will not cool or heat your apartment faster. If you need to adjust the temperature, make small changes. During cold weather, raise the thermostat only 1 or 2 degrees at a time instead of setting it very high.

During very cold weather, do not turn the system completely off. Keeping the heat running helps maintain a safe indoor temperature and can help reduce the risk of frozen pipes.

Keep Airflow Clear and Report Problems Early

To help your system work properly, keep vents clear of furniture, boxes, curtains, clothing, and other items. Please do not store items in the AC closet, do not cover the thermostat, and keep windows and exterior doors closed while the system is running.

Please do not spray water, cleaners, or air fresheners directly on the thermostat. Do not open, repair, reset, rewire, or replace the thermostat or HVAC equipment yourself.

Laredo Town Apartments provides scheduled HVAC filter replacement as part of our regular maintenance program. Please allow maintenance access for scheduled filter changes so the system can continue working efficiently.

Submit a maintenance request if your apartment is not heating or cooling properly, air is not coming from the vents, the thermostat is blank or not responding, the system is making unusual noises, water is leaking near the HVAC equipment, or the system turns on and off repeatedly.

Questions?

Using your heat pump properly helps keep your apartment comfortable and helps prevent avoidable HVAC issues. If you are unsure how to use your thermostat or believe the system is not working properly, please submit a maintenance request through AppFolio or contact the leasing office.
